Banshee Affiliate Revenue
Beginning in July 2010, Banshee incorporated Amazon MP3 Store integration. Amazon provides an affiliate fee for purchases (10% for MP3s, lower for other items), and this fee is directed to the non-profit GNOME Foundation. The only exceptions are on distributions that modify our code: Ubuntu, where Canonical receives 75%, and Linux Mint, where they retain 50%.
As of September 1, 2011, Banshee has raised $9,215 USD for the GNOME Foundation. It is projected that our contributions will exceed $10,000 USD per year, amounting to approximately 3% of the Foundation’s budget. Monthly details are being tracked in a spreadsheet.
When you buy music from Banshee’s Amazon MP3 Store, you not only get easy downloads, but you also help support our free software community.
