What is Armie Hammer’s Net Worth and Salary?

Armie Hammer, an American actor, currently holds a net worth of $10 thousand. He gained significant fame by playing the identical Winklevoss twins in David Fincher’s film “The Social Network” (2010). His acting career began with a role as Student #2 in an episode of the Emmy-winning FOX sitcom “Arrested Development,” followed by guest appearances on “Veronica Mars” (2006) and “Desperate Housewives” (2007). In July 2022, news emerged about Armie Hammer working as a concierge and timeshare salesperson at a resort located in the Cayman Islands. Initially, hotel staff denied these reports, but they were soon validated by an anonymous source who informed Variety:

“He is working at the resort and selling timeshares. He is working in a cubicle. The reality is he’s totally broke and is trying to fill the days and earn money to support his family.“

Additionally, Hammer apparently took on the role of an apartment complex manager in the Caymans, where he spent much of his childhood and where his wife and children relocated following his controversies, which we will explore further in this article.

During a July 2024 conversation on Bill Maher’s podcast, Armie openly acknowledged that he was “broke” at that period in his life but claimed to be “happier than ever.” A month after that, he shared an Instagram video selling his treasured truck, a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, due to the unaffordability of gas.

Early Life

Armie Hammer, born Armand Douglas Hammer on August 28, 1986, hails from Santa Monica, California. His mother, Dru Ann, served as a loan officer at a bank, while his father, Michael, owns Armand Hammer Productions, Knoedler Publishing, and various other businesses. The family, which includes Armie’s younger brother, Viktor, briefly resided in Dallas, Texas, before relocating to the Cayman Islands when he was seven years old. After spending five years there, they returned to Los Angeles. Hammer received his education at Faulkner’s Academy and Grace Christian Academy (the latter founded by his father) in the Cayman Islands, as well as at Los Angeles Baptist High School. However, he dropped out in his junior year to concentrate on acting, although he did attend classes at UCLA and Pasadena City College at his parents’ urging. Initially, Armie’s parents disapproved of his decision to leave school, but they later became supportive of his career.

When Armand Hammer passed away, reports indicated his net worth could have reached as high as $800 million. After adjusting for inflation, this is roughly equivalent to around $2 billion today. Subsequent reports would, however, suggest that his fortune was considerably less. Armand passed away in December 1990 and is interred directly across from his notable Occidental Building and Hammer art museum at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery. His resting place is a grand tomb located nearby the graves of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Hugh Hefner, and Rodney Dangerfield.

Following Armand’s death, his grandson Michael – Armie’s father – assumed control of the estate as the sole executor, albeit not necessarily with substantial monetary assets. As a devoted Christian, Michael is said to have persuaded Armand to leave financial contributions to organizations such as Jews for Jesus, Italy for Christ, and various evangelical groups. During Armand’s funeral, his father-in-law, Douglas L. Mobley (Dru Ann’s father), disclosed that Armand had converted from Judaism to Christianity on his deathbed. Douglas had transitioned from a real estate developer to a Christian evangelist.

Michael crossed paths with Dru Ann on an airplane in 1985. At that time, she worked as a personal fitness instructor while he held an executive position at Occidental. Together with her father, Douglas Mobley, Dru Ann guided Michael toward evangelical Christianity. Soon after his grandfather Armand’s demise, Michael relocated his family – Armie was about seven years old then – to the Cayman Islands, where he established a Christian Academy.

The estate quickly faced more than 100 lawsuits. A biography detailing Armand’s life (one of the numerous written) stated that approximately $40 million in cash remained in Armand’s estate. The estate’s most significant asset was its art collection, valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. This art collection was left to the Armand Hammer Foundation, which later donated it to the Armand Hammer Museum of Art and Cultural Center in Los Angeles, situated within a building attached to Occidental Petroleum’s headquarters.

Throughout his life, Armand reportedly spent $100 million amassing his art collection. Due to a complex arrangement, the entire collection and associated building essentially belonged to UCLA, a situation that sparked controversy and remained unresolved for decades.

Some family members expressed their discontent when the Armand Hammer Foundation eventually became the largest donor to the Douglas L. Mobley Foundation. They were also troubled to discover that Armand’s will specified that if Michael were to pass away, Dru Ann would succeed him as executor of the Armand Hammer Foundation.

Lawsuits from charitable organizations and family members greatly depleted the Armand Hammer Foundation’s financial resources. As indicated by its 1995 tax filing, the foundation managed merely $6.5 million in assets.

The foundation sold several of its most important pieces to generate funds to combat the lawsuits. Notably, Bill Gates purchased the “Codex Leicester” for $30.8 million in 1994, equivalent to around $55 million today. This collection of scientific writings by Leonardo da Vinci is also referred to as the “Leonardo Codex.” Armand had previously acquired the Codex at auction in 1980 for $5 million, which equates to about $16 million in today’s values.

Arm & Hammer

Despite a widespread myth, Armand was not involved in the establishment of Arm & Hammer baking soda. However, to complicate matters, Armand purchased a significant share in the publicly traded household goods firm Church & Dwight during the 1980s, eventually joining its board of directors. Why is this significant? The most recognized product of Church & Dwight remains… Arm & Hammer baking soda. The name “Arm & Hammer” was adopted by the baking soda company over three decades prior to Armand’s birth. In 2021, various women accused Armie of engaging in a series of strange acts. One woman alleged that Armie carved an “A” into his pelvis and, reportedly in earnest, suggested she should undergo a rib removal so he could eat it. An anonymous Instagram account surfaced, claiming to share screenshots of messages allegedly sent by Armie that detailed fantasies involving rape and cannibalism. These messages were purportedly exchanged between 2016 and 2020, during his marriage to Elizabeth Chambers.
