What Is A$AP Rocky’s Net Worth?
The net worth of A$AP Rocky, an American rapper, is estimated to be $20 million. He gained his stage name from his association with the hip-hop collective A$AP Mob. Apart from his achievements in hip-hop music and fashion, A$AP Rocky is also recognized as a talented record producer, known under the alias Lord Flacko.
Early Life
Born Rakim Athelaston Mayers on October 3, 1988, in Manhattan, New York, A$AP Rocky spent his childhood in Harlem before relocating to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, at the age of 9. His interest in rap music blossomed during his primary school years; by third grade, he had begun writing his own rap lyrics. At 12 years old, life took a tragic turn for Mayers when his father was imprisoned for drug offenses, his older brother was murdered, and his family ended up in a shelter. During their time in various homeless shelters, A$AP Rocky engaged in selling cannabis and crack while continuing to write rap. He faced a two-week jail sentence for drug dealing, during which he was housed with Cassanova, another aspiring rapper.
Career
In 2007, A$AP Rocky became a member of the A$AP Mob Crew, a Harlem-based collective of rappers, producers, and artists involved in the music industry. His entrance onto the national rap scene occurred in early 2011, when his single “Peso” gained traction on the internet and was showcased on Hot 97, one of the leading radio stations in the tri-state area. Shortly thereafter, “Purple Swag” was released, with its music video quickly becoming popular. He secured a record deal worth $3 million with Sony, RCA Records, and Polo Grounds Music, allowing him to tour soon after – with $1.7 million allocated for his personal projects and $1.3 million dedicated to his company, ASAP Worldwide, along with A&R and executive producer Steven Rodriguez (known as ASAP Yams).
In July 2012, Rocky performed at the Pitchfork Music Festival. He was initially set to make his television debut on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” but was arrested the night prior due to alleged involvement in a fight. His performance was postponed to August 21st, where he showcased “Goldie” on the program.
Rocky’s debut album, “Long. Live. A$AP,” was recorded in 2013 and received favorable reviews from critics, debuting at #1 on the “Billboard” 200 chart. To promote the album, he embarked on a 40-date national tour. The album achieved Gold certification on March 16, 2015. Furthermore, in late 2013, he launched his clothing brand, ASAP, and collaborated with high-profile designer Raf Simons.
After the success of two singles in 2014, “At. Long. Last. ASAP,” his second studio album, was leaked online on May 25, 2015, just a week before its official release. The album received a generally positive reception and debuted at #1 on the “Billboard” 200, marking his second consecutive album to achieve the top spot. However, “At. Long. Last. ASAP” saw a quick decline in sales, becoming the lowest-selling album of his career.
In 2018, Rocky collaborated with Gucci Mane and 21 Savage on the track “Cocky,” which served to promote the film “Uncle Drew.” He also released the singles “Bad Company” on March 27, 2018, and “A$AP Forever” on April 5th. His third album, “Testing,” was released on May 25, 2018, debuting at #4 on the “Billboard” charts. He announced that his next studio album would be titled “Don’t Be Dumb.” Throughout his career, A$AP has worked with numerous artists, including Tyler, the Creator, Drake, Kid Cudi, Frank Ocean, and Lana Del Rey.
Alongside his successful music career, A$AP has made appearances in films like “Dope,” “Zoolander 2,” and “Popstar: Never
“Stop Never Stopping,” “Monster,” “Stockholm Syndrome,” and “A Man Named Scott.”
Personal Life
From 2011 to 2012, Rocky was in a relationship with rapper Iggy Azalea. He had a brief engagement with model Chanel Iman between 2013 and 2014. Then, in May 2021, he disclosed his relationship with Rihanna. Their first child, a son named RZA, was born in May 2022, and during the halftime show for Super Bowl LVII, Rihanna announced that she was expecting their second child. Their second son, Riot, was born in August 2023.
Rocky mentioned that he used to be a pescatarian but has since adopted a vegan lifestyle.
Legal Issues
In July 2012, Rocky faced a lawsuit for allegedly assaulting a man after observing him doing drugs in a clothing store in NYC. Following the emergence of photos from the incident, he was arrested for assault but later reached a plea bargain.
On August 31, 2014, he was charged with misdemeanor assault after allegedly slapping a woman at a music festival. The case was dismissed when a witness failed to appear in court, but the woman subsequently filed a lawsuit in July 2014, which was privately settled in April 2015.
In July 2019, A$AP Rocky was arrested for aggravated assault in Stockholm, Sweden, following a street altercation with Mustafa Jafari. It was reported that Jafari was attacked and kicked during the incident. Rocky posted two videos on Instagram; one depicted him and his group urging two young men, including Jafari, to stop following them, while the second video recorded Jafari breaking his headphones during a tussle and hitting A$AP’s bodyguard with them. Surveillance footage corroborated the bodyguard’s attack on Jafari. Jafari subsequently required hospital treatment, prompting the arrest of Rocky and his bodyguard as authorities feared they might flee or tamper with evidence. They were held at Kronoberg Remand Prison until the trial commenced on July 30, causing Rocky’s tour to be paused. Following his arrest, the U.S. Embassy intervened, and his family sought help from Al Sharpton to secure his release. Many activists, politicians, and fellow musicians advocated for his freedom, but without success.
A$AP Rocky entered a not guilty plea for assault. The trial concluded on August 2, and he was released to await a verdict scheduled for August 14. He returned to the U.S. on his private jet, aware that should the final sentence exceed his time served, he would need to return to Sweden to complete his sentence. Ultimately, he was convicted of assault and received a suspended prison sentence of one month (which he had already served), along with a requirement to pay $1,270 in damages to the victim.
In April 2022, upon his arrival at Los Angeles International Airport, Rocky was taken into custody by LAPD officers concerning a potential assault with a deadly weapon stemming from a Hollywood shooting in November 2021. His bail was set at $550,000, and he was released shortly after. Subsequently, detectives executed a search warrant at his residence and collected several boxes as evidence. In August 2022, charges were filed against him by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
