What Was Bob Saget’s Net Worth and Salary?

At the time of his passing in 2022, Bob Saget, an American stand-up comedian, actor, and television host, had a net worth of $50 million. He gained fame in the 1980s as a stand-up comic, known for his edgy humor, but became more family-oriented after joining the cast of the beloved family series “Full House,” appearing in all 192 episodes. Saget also gained popularity as the host of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” from 1989 to 1997, where he led the first eight seasons, and lent his voice as the narrator for all 208 installments of “How I Met Your Mother.” Sadly, Bob Saget passed away on January 9, 2022, at 65 years of age.

Early Life

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on May 17, 1956, Robert Lane Saget, widely known as Bob, came from a Jewish family. His father, Benjamin, was a supermarket executive, while his mother, Rosalyn, also known as “Dolly,” worked as a hospital administrator. Bob spent part of his childhood in California before returning to Philadelphia, where he attended Abington Senior High School. After completing high school in 1975, he pursued his degree in film at Temple University. His student film project, “Through Adam’s Eyes,” about a boy receiving reconstructive facial surgery, earned an award of merit in the Student Academy Awards. Bob graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978.

Career

Saget’s journey began in stand-up comedy, where he toured extensively across the nation. However, he gained notable recognition following his television debut. His first appearance on a talk show was on “The Merv Griffin Show” in 1981. In early 1987, he briefly worked on CBS’s “The Morning Program,” but it was his iconic role as Danny Tanner on “Full House” that truly propelled him into the limelight. The show achieved immense popularity, consistently ranking in the Nielsen Top 30 during its third season and maintaining a legacy through reruns. In “Full House,” Saget portrayed a widowed father raising three daughters, aided by his brother-in-law, Jesse, and his best friend, Joey. The show aired from 1987 to 1995 across eight seasons and 192 episodes.

In addition, Saget took on the role of host for “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (“AFV”) starting in 1989, remaining in that position until 1997. Throughout the early 1990s, he managed both “Full House” and “AFV.” In 1996, he directed the ABC telefilm “For Hope,” inspired by the life of his sister, Gay Saget, who had tragically passed away from scleroderma three years earlier. His first feature film, “Dirty Work,” co-starring Norm Macdonald and Artie Lange, was released in 1998. Although it received largely unfavorable reviews at the box office, it has since gained a cult following, potentially due to Lange’s later rise to fame on “The Howard Stern Show.” From October 2001 to May 2002, Saget took on a leading role in the short-lived WB sitcom “Raising Dad,” alongside Kat Dennings,

Brie Larson and Jerry Adler.

Beginning in 2005, Saget lent his voice to the CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother,” serving as the voice of future Ted Mosby and narrating the show until its conclusion in 2014. He hosted the NBC game show “1 vs. 100” from 2006 to 2008. The HBO comedy special “That Ain’t Right,” released in 2007, was dedicated to his father, who had died earlier that year due to congestive heart failure complications. Additionally, in 2007, Saget directed, wrote, and starred in the direct-to-DVD film “Farce of the Penguins,” a spoof of the 2005 documentary “March of the Penguins.” In the same timeframe, he appeared in four episodes of the HBO series “Entourage” playing a parody of himself, from 2005 to 2010. In June 2022, he made a posthumous appearance on an episode of “Welcome Home Nikki Glaser?” aired on the E! Network.

Saget was involved in other projects, including the short-lived ABC sitcom “Surviving Suburbia” in 2009, the A&E series “Strange Days” in 2010, and a guest role in the series “Grandfathered” (2015; 2016), which starred and was produced by John Stamos, his former “Full House” co-star.

Other Projects

Apart from his work in film and television, Saget was also an author. His book “Dirty Daddy” was published in 2014, detailing his life, career, comedic journey, and various experiences. To promote the book release, he launched a stand-up tour in Australia, titled “Bob Saget Live: The Dirty Daddy Tour,” marking his first performance there, with shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth. In April 2020, he started his podcast “Bob Saget’s Here For You” in collaboration with Studio71.

Personal Life

Saget was married to Sherri Kramer from May 1982 until November 1997, with whom he had three daughters.

In 2018, he tied the knot with Kelly Rizzo, and they remained together until his passing in January 2022.

He served as a board member for the Scleroderma Research Foundation, actively raising funds and awareness for the disease that affected his sister.

On January 9, 2022, Saget was discovered deceased in his hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton near Williamsburg, Florida, after having performed a stand-up gig the previous evening. The autopsy revealed that he had suffered blunt head trauma from an accidental blow to the back of his head, likely resulting from a fall, leading to his death from the associated injuries during sleep.

Real Estate

In September 1990, Bob and his then-wife Sherri purchased a home in LA’s Pacific Palisades for $2.5 million, equivalent to slightly over $5 million in today’s currency.

In June 2003, he bought a recently renovated home in Los Angeles for $2.9 million. In June 2022, following his death, Kelly Rizzo, his widow, placed this home on the market for $7.675 million, and it was eventually sold in an off-market transaction early in 2023 for $5.4 million.
