Early Life

Hakeem Seriki, widely recognized as Chamillionaire, entered the world on November 28, 1979, in Washington, D.C. At the age of three, his family relocated to Houston, Texas. He developed an interest in rap music while studying at Jersey Village High School. He has a younger sibling, Rasaq Seriki, who also pursues a career in rap.

Music Career

The moniker “Chamillionaire” combines “chameleon” and “millionaire.” While promoting at an event, Seriki and his friend Paul Wall encountered Michael “5000” Watts, a well-known mixtape DJ in Houston. They proposed promoting Watt’s label, Swishahouse, and persuaded him to allow them to perform freestyles on the introduction to his radio show on KBXX-FM. Their freestyles were included in one of Watt’s mixtapes, helping them establish a presence in the Houston rap scene and mixtape industry. The duo formed The Color Changin’ Click and collaborated on the album “Get Ya Mind Correct” (2002), which achieved over 150,000 sales. The album received a nomination for independent album of the year in 2002 from “The Source” magazine, leading to their rise in prominence, with the Color Changin’ Click showcasing their talent at the SXSW music festival in 2004.

Established in 2004, Chamillitary Entertainment, his personal record label, was founded by him. Both Lil Ken and Troy Henry are signed as artists, with former members including Yung Ro, 50/50 Twin, and Seriki’s younger brother, Rasaq. Over 20 releases, including mixtapes and albums, have been attributed to the label. In 2003, the Houston-based auto dealer Fly Rydes saw an investment from Seriki. The company focuses on customizing cars, a service he observed to be in high demand across Texas.
