Install on openSUSE
Banshee 2.6.2 is included by default, but subscribing to the Banshee repository is recommended for automatic major release updates.
Repository
The default installation of Banshee 2.6.0 includes major release updates. By subscribing to the Banshee repository, you can receive automatic updates for newer versions.
It is recommended to ensure your openSUSE installation is fully up to date before installing the latest Banshee.
For other SUSE distributions:

Install on Ubuntu
Banshee 2.6.1 is part of the software included in Ubuntu versions 13.04 and 13.10.
Ubuntu does not typically update the versions of applications in its default repository, which may result in older versions being available. Additionally, Canonical receives a 75% cut of Amazon affiliate revenue by modifying code. Using Banshee from the community PPA ensures that 100% of the affiliate revenue goes to GNOME.
- To add the Banshee Team PPA to your system, use the command sudo add-apt-repository ppa:banshee-team/ppa in a terminal.
- Please install or update Banshee.
Install on Foresight
- The default media player on Foresight Linux is Banshee.
- To install or update Banshee, you can use PackageKit or enter “sudo conary update banshee” in a terminal.
Install on Fedora
- To install Banshee, use the yum package manager: yum install banshee

Install on Debian
- Banshee is available in Debian and can be installed using either method.
Another option for installation is using Synaptic, which does not require the use of the console.

- Debian Testing / Stretch contains Banshee 2.6.2
Install on OpenMandriva
- Banshee is not included in the latest stable release 2014.1.

Install on Slackware
- To enhance Slackware64-current, consider installing a package manager like slapt-get that has been tested.

- The banshee package offers the stable 2.6.x series with gstreamer 1.x backports. Users are advised not to report gstreamer-related bugs for banshee when utilizing this package.

Install on Arch Linux
- To install Banshee 2.6.x, users need to become root and run the command: pacman -S banshee.
- To install Banshee 2.9.x, users can become root and run: pacman -S banshee-git.
Install on Mac OS X
This release is a beta-quality technology preview with limited device support (only mass storage devices), no CD support, or video support. Testing and reporting issues is encouraged. Banshee for OS X is not as complete or stable as our Linux releases.
Banshee for OS X is compatible with Intel 10.7 (Lion) and 10.8 (Mountain Lion), but does not support OS X 10.6 and older versions, as well as the PowerPC architecture.

This release is a technology preview at alpha-quality, containing numerous known bugs and deficiencies, some of which are quite noticeable. Please test it and report any new bugs you encounter. Developers can assist us in enhancing the Windows build.
