Garth Brooks, a star in American country music, boasts a net worth estimated at $400 million, which is a combined figure with his wife, Trisha Yearwood, who is also a country singer. A significant portion of their wealth, between $300 million and $350 million, primarily comes from Garth’s success.

Early Life

Troyal Garth Brooks was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on February 7, 1962. He is the youngest of his parents’ children, Troyal Raymond Brooks and Colleen McElroy Carroll. His father worked as a draftsman for an oil company, while his mother was a country singer in the 1950s, notable for her appearance on the TV show “Ozark Jubilee.” Garth is the product of both parents’ second marriages, having four older half-siblings and an older sister. His family regularly held weekly talent shows, compelling all six children to participate in skits or sing. Although he enjoyed singing during his youth, Garth primarily focused on sports. In high school, he played both football and baseball and was part of the track and field team, where he earned a scholarship to Oklahoma State University, excelling in javelin. He graduated in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.

Early Career

Upon completing college, Brooks began playing guitar and performing in local bars and venues in 1985. An entertainment attorney traveled from Dallas to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to see him perform and offered to produce his first demo. Garth initially planned to pursue a record deal in Nashville but returned to Oklahoma within just 24 hours. Encouraged by the attorney, Brooks decided to give Nashville another chance and relocated there in 1987.

Success

Brooks released his debut album, “Hungry Years,” in 1989, which reached number two on the country album charts. His breakout number-one hit, “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” is included in this album. That same year, he toured as a supporting act for the legendary country artist Kenny Rogers. His second album, “No Fences,” came out in 1990, dominating the country albums charts for 23 weeks. Featuring hits like “Friends in Low Places” and “The Thunder Rolls,” “No Fences” is his best-selling album, yielding four number-one country singles. Following this, Brooks released his third album, “Ropin’ the Wind,” in the fall of 1991, which made history by debuting at number one on the main album charts, a milestone achieved first by a country artist. Brooks wasalso marked the moment when he became the first country artist to simultaneously have three albums in the top 20 of the Billboard 200’s album chart. In the fall of 1992, he released his fourth album, “The Chase.”

With the release of “In Pieces” in 1993, which topped both country and main charts, Brooks embarked on his first world tour that same year. This tour included a memorable sold-out show at Wembley Arena in England, marking a first for an American country artist. Two years later, he followed up with “Fresh Horses” and the single “She’s Every Woman.” In 1995, he set out on his second world tour, entertaining 5.5 million fans and generating over $105 million in revenue. His first live album, “Double Live,” came out in 1998.

In October 1999, Brooks released the soundtrack “Garth Brooks in…The Life of Chris Gaines,” tied to the film “The Lamb,” although this project did not achieve success.

On October 26, 2000, Brooks made the official announcement of his retirement from recording and performing.

In the fall of 2007, Brooks hosted nine sold-out concerts named “Garth Brooks: Live in Kansas City.” Initially intended as a single performance, the overwhelming demand led to all nine shows being fully booked in under two hours, amounting to about 140,000 tickets sold. A few months later, in January 2008, he performed five shows in Los Angeles, all sold out within 48 hours, to raise funds for the 2007 wildfires.

In the fall of 2009, Brooks briefly returned from retirement to undertake a residency at Steve Wynn’s Encore Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. With access to a private jet provided by Wynn, he was able to spend quality time with his family in Oklahoma while still performing in Las Vegas on weekends.

Brooks’s comeback in 2014 was marked by a new single, “People Loving People,” along with a new album titled “Man Against Machine” and a world tour. In 2016, he collaborated with Target for a compilation album, “The Ultimate Collection,” which included the album “Gunslinger” and the single “Baby, Let’s Lay Down and Dance.”

In 2018, he released the single “All Day Long,” which was part of his 2020 album “Fun.” That summer, Brooks announced his Stadium Tour, which would cover 30 North American stadiums. The following year, he launched the Dive Bar Tour, stopping at seven dive bars across the U.S.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he and Trisha Yearwood held an informal concert that reached 5.2 million viewers on Facebook Live. However, the heavy traffic caused the stream to crash multiple times. Subsequently, they hosted a similar concert on CBS, which drew in 5.6 million viewers, while they also contributed $1 million to pandemic relief efforts. On July 7, the couple returned to Facebook Live for another event, taking song requests from fans.

In late June 2020, Brooks hosted a concert that was broadcast to 300 drive-in theatres across the U.S. and Canada. Announcing in November 2022, he planned a Garth Brooks/Plus ONE Las Vegas residency for 2023 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

Personal Life

While attending college, Brooks met his first wife, songwriter Sandy Mahl. They got married on May 24, 1986, and together they had three daughters: Taylor, August, and Allie. However, Brooks and Mahl divorced on December 17, 2001. His divorcewas one of history’s most costly divorces. A settlement of $125 million was paid by Garth to Sandy.

On December 10, 2005, Brooks entered into a new marriage with country singer Trisha Yearwood.

In July 2013, Brooks welcomed his first grandchild when August’s daughter, Karalynn, was born to Chance Michael Russell.

Real Estate

The residences of Brooks include properties in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Nashville, Tennessee; and Malibu, California. It was speculated in 2019 that Brooks and Yearwood purchased the Layby Hotel located on Holmes Beach on Anna Maria Island, Florida, for $8.825 million. In May 2023, their Nashville property was listed for sale by Trisha Yearwood at $4.5 million, which they accepted an offer of $3.34 million for in October 2024. Additionally, they retain ownership of another custom-built mansion in Nashville, constructed in 2001. Garth had acquired the 300-acre land in 1990 for $432,000.
