Changing the coils is a necessary maintenance step whenever you revamped your vaping gear. The key point is making them endure for an extended period. Despite their economical availability, stretching their durability will result in significant monetary savings.
A previous discussion on prolonging the coil lifespan is available in one of our previous articles, accessible here. This blog entry is dedicated to coil cleaning, focusing on both standard (stock coil) devices and rebuildable atomizers.
Grooming routine for standard (stock) vape coils

The cleaning concept for pre-built standard coils, such as the Innokin Zenith II, might not have crossed your mind. Despite the modern advancements like ACM technology utilized in recent models such as the Kroma 217 and Coolfire Z80 to enhance coil longevity, the vaping performance will eventually dwindle.
The diminished vapor output and burnt taste stem from the accumulation of residues arising from the heating of e-juice.Extend the life of a coil by cleaning it, which may not fully restore its performance but can eke out a few extra days.
How to clean standard vape coils?
- Remove the coil from your tank or device when vaping performance declines significantly.
- Rinse the coil under hot water briefly to remove outer residue layers from the wicking material and coil surface.
- Submerge the coil in boiling water for about 30 minutes.
- Let the coil air dry for 24 hours.
While a cleaned coil won’t match a new one’s performance, it will prolong its lifespan, saving money and reducing waste.
Cleaning rebuildable vape coils

Rebuildable atomizer coils are meant to be cleaned and reused over long periods. The cleaning process is more thorough and yields better results due to the removable wicking material and coil on the build deck.
How to clean rebuildable vape coils?
- Remove the atomizer deck from your rebuildable tank or dripper when vaping performance diminishes.
- Clear the wicking material from the coil center and wicking channels, leaving the coil intact.
- Rinse the atomizer deck under hot water briefly.
- If residue remains, use a damp paper towel and more hot water to clean the atomizer deck.
- Air-dry the atomizer deck.
- Place the atomizer deck on a regulated mod, like the Kroma 217.
- Pulse the coil in short bursts at around 50% of your vaping wattage until it glows.
- Inspect and gently remove any remaining residue using tweezers or a small screwdriver between pulses.
- Rinse the coil under warm water to remove any fallen residue and debris in the deck.
- Let the atomizer dry completely.
After these steps, re-wick the coil, prime it, and resume vaping at full capacity. Quality coils can last months with proper care in rebuildable atomizers, making tanks like the Ares 2 a great long-term investment!
