Early Life

On February 28, 1977, Jason Aldean, originally named Jason Aldine Williams, was born in Macon, Georgia. Following his parents’ separation when he was three, he predominantly lived with his mother in Macon while spending summers with his father in Homestead, Florida. He picked up the guitar, practicing during his father’s work hours, and enjoyed playing with him in the evenings. Both parents fully supported his musical aspirations. By the age of 14, Aldean was determined to become a country music artist, beginning his career by participating in local talent contests and fairs. The following year, he formed a band, and they performed together throughout his high school years. After graduating, he and his band played at various smaller venues and clubs across the southeast, with support from his father.

Early Career

In 1998, Aldean began playing songs that would appear on his debut album, and after a performance in Atlanta, a producer from Warner Chappell Music approached him with a record deal. Following the signing in late 1998, he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee. However, the label soon released him, leading him to sign another deal, which ultimately ended in the same way. After spending four frustrating years in Nashville, he was tempted to move back to Georgia in 2004 but decided to give himself six more months to pursue a record deal. Once he secured a contract with Broken Arrow Records, he launched his self-titled debut album in July 2005. This album produced hit singles like “Why,” “Amarillo Sky,” and “Hicktown,” all of which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, leading to the album receiving Platinum certification. Aldean received nominations for Video of the Year and Song of the Year for “Amarillo Sky” at the 2006 Academy of Country Music Awards; originally, it had been recorded by McBride & the Ride. Then, in the spring of 2007, he released his second album, “Relentless,” which peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 chart and debuted at #1 on the Top Country Albums chart. Released in September 2016, Aldean’s seventh album, “They Don’t Know,” debuted at the top of the “Billboard” album chart, marking the third album of his to achieve this feat. During the fall of 2017, he took the stage in Las Vegas at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. As he began to perform “When She Says Baby,” a gunman opened fire on the crowd from the 32^nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort. Thankfully, Jason and his crew escaped without injury, but the tragic event resulted in 52 fatalities and over 800 injuries. He later visited victims in recovery at the hospital and performed a cover of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” on “Saturday Night Live” the following week. Aldean married Jessica Ann Ussery in 2001, and the couple shares two daughters. In 2012, he confessed to inappropriate conduct with former “American Idol” contestant Brittany Kerr, leading to his divorce from Jessica the following year. He announced his engagement to Kerr in September 2014, and they tied the knot in March 2015. Together, they have two children. Aldean has contributed over $4 million to breast cancer research, primarily supporting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
