On October 18, 1975, Richie wed his college sweetheart, Brenda Harvey. Together, they informally adopted two-year-old Nicole Camille Escovedo, the daughter of Sheila E’s niece and one of the band members of Lionel Richie. At the age of nine, Nicole’s adoption was made legal by Richie.
