Career

Matthew Broderick gained recognition through his theater involvement. His notable performance in the off-Broadway play “Torch Song Trilogy” earned him acclaim, leading to roles in more significant Broadway productions. Before long, he received Tony Awards for his work.

With a solid base in theater, Broderick seamlessly transitioned to film, starting with “Max Dugan Returns” and “WarGames,” the latter becoming a blockbuster hit. He followed this success with 1985’s “Ladyhawk,” but it was his role in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” that truly catapulted his fame. Praised by critics, the film was developed from a screenplay written in under a week. It was also a financial success, earning over $70 million against a budget of $5.8 million. Even today, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” remains a beloved classic among teenage audiences.

Broderick’s subsequent two major films both revolved around wartime themes. Initially, he portrayed an Air Force research assistant in “Project X.” To close out the 80s, he took on the role of an American Civil War officer in the 1989 film “Glory.” He started the 90s by voicing the adult Simba in Disney’s legendary movie “The Lion King.” Following a controversial car accident, Broderick found acclaim in dark comedies such as “The Cable Guy” and “Election.”

In the 90s, Matthew also returned to Broadway, delivering multiple performances in a variety of musicals, and he earned another Tony Award for “How to Succeed in Business Without Really

Matthew Broderick tied the knot with Sarah Jessica Parker in 1997. Their first child was born in 2002, and in 2009, the couple welcomed twins through a surrogate.

Ireland Car Accident

In 1987, while driving in Ireland, Matthew Broderick accidentally drove into oncoming traffic, leading to a head-on crash with another vehicle. As a result, he sustained a concussion, multiple fractures, and a collapsed lung, while his female companion escaped with minor injuries. Tragically, the mother and daughter in the other car were killed on impact.

The Irish authorities considered sentencing Broderick to up to five years, but in the end, he received only a £100 fine. Many observers, including the victims’ families, questioned whether his fame had influenced the judicial outcome.

In March 2011, Matthew and Sarah invested $18.995 million in a townhouse located in New York City. Following this purchase, they spent millions on renovations, later listing the property for $24.99 million in 2012. Faced with challenges in selling it, they ultimately accepted an $18.25 million offer, which resulted in a considerable loss after accounting for their renovation costs.

In 2016, they purchased two adjacent NYC townhouses for an astonishing $34.5 million, merging them into an impressive mansion featuring 14,000 square feet of living space, 2,100 square feet of outdoor space, and 50 feet of street frontage.

While completing their significant property development project in New York, they resided in a nearby townhouse, which they had bought in 2000 for $2.995 million and also renovated.
