What is Phil Collins’ Net Worth?
Phil Collins, an English musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actor, and author possesses a net worth of $350 million. Notably, he ranks as one of the wealthiest drummers globally, one of the richest Oscar recipients ever, and also one of the richest lead vocalists throughout history.
At present, Phil Collins has surpassed 100 million album sales worldwide, both as a solo performer and as part of the band Genesis. Alongside Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney, he is among only three artists to have achieved sales exceeding 100 million albums both solo and with a group. His accolades include seven Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, and an Oscar.
Earnings
During a touring year, Collins’ earnings can reach up to $50 million. For instance, following the success of his “Not Dead Yet Tour,” which grossed $90 million, he pocketed $45 million.
Genesis Catalog Sale
In September 2022, Phil and his fellow Genesis bandmates, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, finalized the sale of their music catalog rights to Concord Music Group Inc. for a substantial $300 million.
Early Life
Born on January 30, 1951, in Chiswick, Middlesex, England (currently part of the London Borough of Hounslow), Philip David Charles Collins comes from a family with two siblings raised by their parents, Greville Philip Austin Collins and Winifred June Collins (née Strange). At the age of five, he received a toy drum set, which sparked his passion. As he honed his skills, his parents upgraded his drum sets. He acknowledges the Beatles, particularly Ringo Starr, as significant influences.
Genesis
In 1970, Collins embarked on his professional music journey as the drummer for Genesis, a band that had already produced two albums. While part of Genesis, he also contributed as a backing vocalist for frontman Peter Gabriel. He had opportunities to sing lead on two tracks: “For Absent Friends” from the 1971 “Nursery Cryme” album and “More Fool Me” from the 1973 “Selling England by the Pound.”
After Gabriel’s departure from the band, Collins took over as the lead vocalist. Often described as sounding “more like Gabriel than Gabriel did,” he was instrumental in the release of several albums during his tenure as Genesis’ singer, such as “A Trick of the Tail” (1976), “…And Then There Were Three…” (1978), “Duke” (1980), “Abacab” (1981), “Genesis” (1983), “Invisible Touch” (1986), and “We Can’t Dance” (1991).

Solo Recording Career
Collins departed from Genesis in March 1996 to focus on his solo music endeavors. Even while still with Genesis, he had already been releasing individual solo projects alongside his contributions to the band. Notable albums include “Face Value” (1981), “Hello, I Must Be Going!” (1982), “No Jacket Required” (1985), “…But Seriously” (1989), and “Both Sides” (1993).
His landmark 1985 album, “No Jacket Required,” achieved global sales of over 20 million copies, solidifying its position as one of the best-selling albums of all time.
After leaving the band, founding the Phil Collins Big Band, he took on the role of drummer. This band toured extensively, performing jazzy tracks along with updated versions of Genesis’s songs and Phil Collins’ own work. In October 1996, he unveiled “Dance into the Light,” marking his sixth solo studio album. Despite achieving No. 4 on the UK charts and No. 23 in the US charts, it received unfavorable critical feedback and performed worse commercially than his earlier solo albums.
In 1999, Disney brought Collins on board to compose and perform songs for the animated film “Tarzan.” The project, which showcased Collins singing in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish for the film’s various dubbed versions and soundtrack, garnered positive acclaim. Notably, the song “You’ll Be in My Heart” dramatically ascended the charts, spending 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, the longest duration for any single at that point. Moreover, in 2000, Collins earned both the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for “You’ll Be in My Heart.”

In 2002, he released the album “Testify,” which initially received the lowest reviews of his discography (though that record would later be surpassed). The following year, he collaborated with Disney again, contributing to the soundtrack for the animated film “Brother Bear” (2003). Not only did he lend his voice to several songs, including “Look Through My Eyes,” but he also took on roles as a composer and songwriter. In 2010, he returned to his solo work with the release of “Going Back.”
Awards and Other Work
Collins entered into an agreement with Warner Music Group in 2015 to remaster all his solo albums. In 2016, he released his autobiography titled “Not Dead Yet.”Since this time, he has remained actively engaged in touring, both solo and with Genesis (which has reunited a few times, including a tour in 2006 named “Turn It On Again: The Tour”). His solo career has garnered a substantial following and numerous awards, such as seven Grammy Awards, six Brit Awards, three American Music Awards, an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and a Disney Legend Award.
Personal Life
Collins has experienced three marriages, all of which ended in divorce. Throughout these three separations, he has disbursed a total of $84 million to his ex-wives, with nearly half of that amount going to his third wife, Orianne Cevey, as we will elaborate on soon.
His first marriage, to Andrea Bertorelli, spanned from 1975 to 1980. The two were classmates in a drama class in London and initially met at the age of 11. Their relationship rekindled during a Genesis concert in Vancouver. Together, they have one son, Simon Collins, who previously served as the vocalist and drummer for the rock band Sound of Contact.
From 1984 to 1996, he was married to Jill Tavelman. Their divorce settlement reportedly included a $25 million payment from Collins to Tavelman, and they share one daughter, actress Lily Collins.
Collins’ third marriage was to Orianne Cevey, lasting from 1999 until 2008. As part of their divorce agreement, Collins paid Cevey $45 million, and they have two sons together.
He was subsequently in a relationship with Dana Tyler, an American news anchor, from 2007 until 2016. AfterFollowing their separation, he relocated to Miami, where Cevey and their two sons were living. It has been reported that he later reconnected with Cevey.
Real Estate
Phil Collins acquired an 11,000-square-foot waterfront mansion in Miami for $33 million in 2015. In December 2020, he listed the property for $40 million and ultimately accepted an offer for $39 million from private equity billionaire Orlando Bravo. Just months before the sale, Phil alleged that his ex-wife, Orianne Cevey, was unwilling to vacate the mansion unless she received a reported $20 million. This request came after she had already received a $45 million settlement from their divorce. It remains unclear if any payment was made to enable her departure.
Collins has a long history of property ownership in his native England.
The data presented is from 2023 and 2024, with projections extending into 2025 and 2026. We also broaden the forecast to include the years 2027 and 2028.
