Curious about Ray J’s Net Worth?

Ray J, also known as William Norwood, Jr., boasts a net worth of $14 million. He is a versatile talent, dabbling in acting, music production, and rapping. Ray J kicked off his performance journey as an actor, with early gigs in commercials and a recurring role on “The Sinbad Show” in the ’90s. With a musical flair in his genes (he is the younger brother of the acclaimed singer Brandy), Ray J ventured into music, signing with Elektra Records and dropping his debut album in 1995. Though his first album had moderate success, he faced setbacks and shifts between acting and music domains.  Ray J jolted into the spotlight in 2007, not for his artistic pursuits, but following the release of a controversial sex tape featuring him and his then-girlfriend Kim Kardashian. This catapulted him to fame and opportunities, leading to a successful album in 2008 under Shaquille O’Neal’s label.

Early Days

William Ray Norwood, Jr., better known as Ray J, entered the world on January 17, 1981, in McComb, Mississippi. Raised in California by Willie and Sonja Bates-Norwood, he grew up in the shadow of his multi-platinum sister Brandy and is the cousin of rap star Snoop Dogg.

Acting Journey

Ray J’s acting voyage commenced in 1989 through TV commercials before landing a significant role as Sinbad’s foster son in “The Sinbad Show” from 1993 to 1994. He also co-starred in Brandy’s “Moesha” and appeared in movies like “Mars Attacks!,” “Steel,” and “Envy.” Ray J revisited TV in 2009 with reality shows like “For the Love of Ray J” and “Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business.” He later featured in shows such as “Good Looking Out,” “VH1 Family Reunion: Love & Hip Hop Edition,” and “Love & Hip Hop: Secrets Unlocked.” In 2022, he appeared on “College Hill: Celebrity Edition.”

Music Odyssey

In 1995, Ray J teamed up with Elektra Records for his debut album “Everything You Want,” which marked his entry into the music scene. Subsequent albums like “This Ain’t a Game” and “Raydiation” showcased his evolving sound and collaborations with industry stalwarts like R. Kelly and Timbaland. His fourth album, “All I Feel,” scored a hit with the track “Sexy Can I.” Ray J’s musical pursuits also led him to establish Knockout Entertainment, his own record label.

Exploring Beyond Entertainment

Beyond entertainment, Ray J ventured into consumer electronics with Raytroniks, introducing products like e-bikes and smartwatches. He engineered a genius marketing blitz for the Scoot E-Bike, scoring endorsement deals with celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, and Justin Bieber. In 2017, Ray J broadened his tech portfolio through a multi-million dollar alliance with Cowboy Wholesale, expanding the Scoot E-Bike range to feature Bluetooth audio and drones. His venture Raycon also stands out as a successful direct-to-consumer electronics brand, specializing in earbuds and headphones.

Royalties from Kim Kardashian Sex Tape

In a sensational turn of events in February 2007, a private video featuring Ray J and Kim Kardashian surfaced. The tape, recorded in 2003, continues to fetch impressive royalties for Ray J. Steve Hirsch from Vivid Entertainment revealed that Ray J rakes in $90,000 every three months, translating to $360,000 annually, from the tape. Notably, whenever Kim makes headlines, be it her wedding or provocateur photoshoots, Ray J’s royalties surge, reaching up to $50,000 weekly. In 2007, following legal wrangling, Kim received a hefty one-time settlement of $5 million for her involvement in the tape.
