Early Life
Born on March 30, 1969, in Fort Worth, Texas, Richard Rawlings spent his childhood attending auto shows with his father, where he also assisted his dad in building cars. At 14, he acquired his first vehicle, a green 1974 Mercury Comet. By the time he reached 16 and was eligible to drive, he had already engaged in buying and selling multiple cars. During high school, he drove a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am and graduated from Eastern Hills High School in 1987.

Fast N’ Loud
Prior to establishing his garage, Rawlings held various roles as a law enforcement officer, firefighter, paramedic, and he was also the owner and operator of Lincoln Press, his own printing and advertising business. In 2002, he sold Lincoln Press to start his Gas Monkey Garage, which has gained international fame for creating hot rods and serving customers worldwide. Since 2012, both Rawlings and Gas Monkey Garage have been featured on the Discovery Channel’s reality show “Fast N’ Loud,” where he collaborates with employees such as Aaron Kaufman, KC Mathieu, and Scot McMillan to search for and restore rare cars. Some notable clients include Dennis Collins and Jay Riecke.
Since 2017, Rawlings has co-hosted the Discovery Channel series “Garage Rehab,” where he works with struggling auto shops to help them thrive.
In September 2013, he launched the Gas Monkey Bar N’ Grill in Northwest Dallas, followed by a second location at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in March 2014, and in October 2014, he opened Gas Monkey Live, a venue for live music.
His first autobiography, “Fast N’ Loud: Blood, Sweat, and Beers,” was published in May 2015.
In 2019, Rawlings expanded the Gas Monkey brand to include a line of energy drinks.

Personal Life
Richard Rawlings married Karen Grames in 1990, but the marriage ended in divorce the next year.
InIn 1999, he tied the knot with his second spouse, Suzanne Marie Mergele. The couple divorced in 2009 but found their way back to each other, remarrying in 2015. However, in March 2019, Rawlings took to Twitter to announce that he and Suzanne were separating and filing for divorce.
Then, in August 2019, he popped the question to his girlfriend, Katerina Deason. He shared the joyous news of their engagement through his social media, expressing his feelings of love at first sight:

According to folklore, in the 1990s, Richard was shot when he encountered a carjacker trying to steal his 1965 Mustang 2+2.
Richard Rawlings is not only a dedicated transcontinental racer but has also participated in numerous rallies. He previously held the record for the fastest time in the Cannonball Run until it was surpassed in 2013. To claim that record, which had been held since 1979, Rawlings drove 2811 miles from New York to Los Angeles in just 31 hours and 59 minutes, averaging a speed of 87.6 MPH. Additionally, he has achieved the remarkable feat of winning both the Gumball 3000 and The Bullrun twice each.
