What is Stephenie Meyer’s Net Worth?
An American author, Stephenie Meyer has achieved a net worth of $120 million. Known as one of the best-selling fiction authors ever, Meyer wrote the phenomenally popular “Twilight” series, which has sold over 100 million copies globally and inspired a highly successful film franchise. In the years 2010 and 2011, her earnings from book and movie royalties exceeded $40 million.
In 2008 and 2009, she outperformed all other authors in terms of book sales. Meyer has also penned two adult novels: “The Host” (2008) and “The Chemist” (2016), along with a novella titled “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” (2010). Additionally, she has ventured into movie production, establishing her own company, Fickle Fish Films, in 2011. Under this company, she has produced both films of “Breaking Dawn” (2011 and 2012), “The Host” (2013), “Austenland” (2013), and “Down a Dark Hall” (2018), and is currently working on a television adaptation of “The Chemist.” Meyer was recognized by “Time” magazine in 2008 as one of the world’s 100 most influential people, and the next year, “Forbes” included her on the list of the 100 most powerful celebrities worldwide.
Early Life
Born Stephenie Morgan on December 24, 1973, in Hartford, Connecticut, Stephenie Meyer was raised in Phoenix, Arizona, alongside her mother Candy, father Stephen (who worked as a financial officer), and five siblings. After attending Chaparral High School, she received a National Merit Scholarship in 1992. Meyer subsequently enrolled at Brigham Young University in Utah, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature in 1997. She also completed coursework at Arizona State University. Before embarking on her literary career, Stephenie’s sole occupation was as a receptionist.
Early Career
Meyer recounts that in June 2003, she had a dream featuring an “average girl” and a “fantastically beautiful, sparkly” vampire (later known as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen) who were discussing their feelings for each other, with the vampire’s desire for the girl’s blood creating a deadly temptation. This inspired her to draft what would evolve into the 13th chapter of “Twilight,” after which she wrote the rest of the novel before backtracking to complete the initial 12 chapters. While crafting her book, Stephenie became part of a group for aspiring female writers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the American Night Writers Association), and astonishingly finished her first novel within three months.

Twilight
In 2009, Jordan Scott, an author, accused Meyer of plagiarism, serving her a cease and desist order by claiming that certain aspects of “Breaking Dawn” were akin to her vampire novel, “The Nocturne.” Stephenie asserted her lack of knowledge about Scott or her book, and Scott failed to provide a copy of “The Nocturne” to substantiate her claims. The “Twilight” series has been translated into 37 languages, and in 2008 and 2009, the novels occupied the top four positions on the “USA Today” best-selling books list for the year. The series has also been adapted into five films, collectively grossing over $3.3 billion at the box office. In 2020, “Midnight Sun,” a “Twilight” novel told from Edward’s perspective instead of Bella’s, was released by Meyer, selling more than one million copies within its first week.

Personal Life
Stephenie married Christiaan Meyer in 1994 when she was 21 years old; they had met as children at church. Together, they have three sons: Gabe, Seth, and Eli. Once Stephenie’s career took off, Christiaan retired from his auditing job to devote his time to their family. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Meyer abstains from alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes, and R-rated movies, reflective of her characters in “Twilight,” who similarly avoid drinking, smoking, and pre-marital sex. A feminist, Stephenie has expressed that “the world is a better place when women are in charge,” though she has faced criticism from feminists for Bella’s lack of autonomy, her reliance on Edward for protection, and the physical injuries she endures after their marriage.
Awards
In 2006, Meyer received the Best Fiction for Young Adults award from the Young Adult Library Services Association for “Twilight.” The British Book Awards recognized “Breaking Dawn” as the Children’s Book of the Year in 2009. Additionally, in 2008, Stephenie was named Author of the Year by “USA Today.”
Real Estate
In 2007, Stephenie and Christiaan purchased a 3,316 square foot home in Cave Creek, Arizona, for $819,000. This 5-bedroom residence features a fireplace, swimming pool, and scenic mountain views, all situated on an acre of land.
