What is Tina Knowles’ Net Worth?
An American businesswoman and fashion designer, Tina Knowles boasts a net worth of $25 million. While she is perhaps most recognized as the mother of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, Tina has also made her mark as a successful entrepreneur in the fashion industry. Through the years, she has launched two fashion brands: Miss Tina and House of Dereon. Tina was married to Matthew Knowles from 1980 until their divorce in 2011, and she was wed to actor Richard Lawson from 2015 to 2023.
Ancestry and Origin of The Name “Beyoncé”
You might find it surprising that Tina Knowles’ maiden name is actually “Beyonce” (without an accent on the final “e”). Born on January 4th, 1954, in Galveston, Texas, her full name is Célestine Ann Beyonce. She comes from Black American heritage, specifically Louisiana Creole. Her family originally bore the last name “Beyincé.” Unfortunately, due to a clerical error, a hospital staff member transcribed Celestine’s last name on her birth certificate as “Beyonce,” leading her to legally carry a different last name from her parents and two elder siblings. Years later, Beyoncé’s cousins still use the Beyincé surname, including her older cousin Angela Beyincé, an actor/singer and songwriter who has contributed to co-writing several of Beyoncé’s hits, such as “Naughty Girl” and “Check on It.”
Tina’s paternal great-grandfather, Jean Boyancé (1832-1894), immigrated from Noaillac, France, to the United States around the 1850s. The precise date remains unknown, but it is documented that he resided in Abbeville, Louisiana, in 1859 when his offspring, Alexandre, was born. Alexandre fathered 19 children with three wives. His youngest son, Lumis Albert Boyance, was born on May 22, 1910, in Delcambre, Louisiana. At some point during his lifetime, Lumis altered the spelling of his surname to “Beyincé” or “Buyince,” for reasons that are unclear. As noted in the April 1940 US Census, Lumis’ wife was recorded as “Agnes Buyince,” which could be yet another clerical mistake or possibly the way they chose to spell their surname then. It’s worth noting that Agnes’ maiden name was Deréon, which inspired the name of the future fashion line owned by Tina and Beyoncé: “House of Deréon.”
Lumis and Agnes had three children, with their youngest, daughter Celestine Ann Beyonce—known as Tina—born in 1954. In 1981, Tina opted to name her first child, a daughter, “Beyoncé,” a name that pays tribute to the various forms of her paternal last name through the generations.

Career
At 19, Tina Knowles began her career with Shiseido, a Japanese cosmetics company, where she worked as a makeup artist in California. However, she decided to end her makeup career to return home to care for her ill parents. Subsequently, she turned her attention to dancing and took on a role as a choreographer at the University of Alabama.
She made her return to the beauty industry…
In the years that came after, she worked as an esthetician in Birmingham, Alabama, eventually opening her own salon in Houston. The salon, named Headliners, has since gained recognition as one of the most notable hair businesses in the city.
Tina Knowles became the costume designer for her daughter when she was part of the music group Destiny’s Child. Knowles was particularly active during the group’s initial years when budget constraints were a challenge. Many of the outfits that the singers wore on stage were crafted by Tina Knowles herself.
Using her experiences, Tina Knowles established her own clothing line in 2004, called House of Dereon. She then introduced a second brand, Miss Tina By Tina Knowles, in 2010. Initially available through the Home Shopping Channel, this second line transitioned to Walmart after its first year. The mission of Miss Tina is aimed at enhancing women’s silhouettes, concealing imperfections, and helping them appear taller and slimmer. The year 2010 was notably busy for Tina Knowles, who also collaborated with her daughter to create the Beyonce Cosmetology Center.
