Tisha Campbell’s Net Worth: What Is It?
As an American singer and actress, Tisha Campbell boasts a net worth of $700 thousand. Primarily recognized for her portrayal of “Gina Waters-Payne” in the popular 1990s sitcom “Martin,” Campbell was a key member of the cast throughout the series. Nonetheless, following her sexual harassment lawsuit against Martin Lawrence and the producers of the show, her appearances were limited in most season five episodes. After reaching a settlement with the production company, she returned for the two-part series finale on the condition of no interaction with Lawrence.
Her film career features prominent roles in well-known movies such as “School Daze” (1988) and the “House Party” franchise, where her performances gained both critical acclaim and commercial success, establishing her reputation in the comedy and musical sectors.
Continuing her television success, Campbell starred in sitcoms like “My Wife and Kids,” playing the role of Janet ‘Jay’ Kyle, which further cemented her status as a recognizable name in the industry. Her talent for infusing warmth and humor into her roles has endeared her to audiences. Moreover, Campbell’s recurring role in “Empire” demonstrated her versatility in more serious dramatic roles. Additionally, her guest appearances in various television shows have made a significant impact, often highlighted by her memorable performances.
For those expecting Tisha to have a more substantial net worth, she faced several financial challenges due to her marriage to Duane Martin, which lasted from 1996 to 2020 (although they legally separated in 2018).
In 2016, a couple of years before their separation, both Duane and Tisha filed for bankruptcy, revealing debts totaling $15.1 million while possessing very few assets. When she initiated her divorce proceedings in February 2018, Tisha reported having only $7 in her account. More details about their bankruptcy, divorce, and properties are provided further in the article.
Early Life
Tisha Michelle Campbell was born on October 13, 1968, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Growing up with five siblings in Newark, New Jersey, Tisha drew inspiration from her mother, a gospel singer and vocal coach, to pursue music. Her father, also a singer, was a chess master during his leisure time. Eventually, she attended the Washington Academy of Music.

Career
Tisha began her acting journey at a very young age, making appearances as early as six years old in a 1974 episode of “The Big Blue Marble.” In the following years, she guest-starred in shows like “Kids Are People Too,” “Unicorn Tales,” and “Captain Kangaroo.” A significant milestone for Campbell occurred in 1986 when she secured a role in the movie “Little Shop of Horrors” at just 16 years old.
After completing her high school education, Tisha relocated to Hollywood to advance her acting career. This decision proved successful as she quickly landed a part in the NBC musical-comedy series “Rags to Riches.” However, the series was…eventually canceled in 1988 after only one season. Following her departure from the show, Campbell made a transition back to film, securing a leading role in “School Daze.” In the subsequent period, she continued to land roles in films such as “Rooftops,” “Another 48 Hrs,” “Boomerang,” and all three installments of “House Party.”
In 1992, Campbell became part of the cast of “Martin,” featuring Martin Lawrence. Despite the role boosting her career, Tisha’s experience on the show was not positive. She departed in 1997 amid a highly publicized sexual harassment scandal. Over the course of the series, Tisha appeared in 122 out of 132 episodes. She accused Martin Lawrence of sexual harassment and later settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. That same year, she starred in the film “Sprung.”
After securing a part in the Hallmark made-for-TV movie “The Sweetest Gift” in 1998, she took on a recurring role in the ABC sitcom “My Wife and Kids,” which ran until 2005. During this time, she also managed to appear in the film “The Last Place on Earth.” More recurring roles followed on television series like “Everybody Hates Chris” and “Rita Rocks.” In 2011, she became part of the cast in the police drama series “The Protector.” By 2015, she landed a recurring role in the sitcom “Dr. Ken,” though it was canceled after two seasons.

Music
Tisha Campbell has also achieved considerable success in the music industry. Her debut album, titled “Tisha,” was released in 1992. Additionally, she contributed a track to the “Sprung” soundtrack. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, she appeared in multiple music videos. Towards the end of the 2010s, Tisha began releasing several singles once more.
Relationships
In 1996, Tisha Campbell tied the knot with actor Duane Martin. Together, they welcomed two children during their relationship. However, following a controversy related to financial matters, the couple filed for divorce in 2018.
Bankruptcy
In 2016, Tisha Campbell and her husband Duane Martin filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection. Court documents indicated that the couple had accrued over $15 million in debt while holding just $313,000 in total assets. Their listed assets included $65,000 in real estate and $248,000 in personal property. Tisha and Duane stated their monthly income was only $7,655, with expenses nearing $17,000 each month. Further documents revealed they owned several vehicles, including a 2014 and a 2016 Range Rover, a 1999 Kawasaki Drifter, and a Jeep Wrangler.
The total debt reported was $15,145,387 owed to various creditors, which included $3 million owed to Broadway Federal Bank for a real estate loan and $9.5 million to the City of Los Angeles for a personal guarantee. During this challenging period, the couple also faced difficulties paying their taxes, allegedly owing tens of thousands of dollars in back taxes.

Divorce
Tisha filed for divorce from Duane in February 2018 after 22 years of marriage. Subsequent court documents indicated that at that time Tisha had assets amounting to $1.5 million but lacked a reliable income source. She asserted that her monthly expenses were $33,000 while Duane earned over $62,000 each month. Tisha also reiterated persistent rumors suggesting Duane had hidden financial assets through various means, including a real estate acquisition that remained undisclosed. Among her more unusual claims was the assertion that Duane owned shirts valued at $750,000 (500 shirts priced at $1,500 each).
The divorce was ultimately finalized in December 2020. As per the settlement terms, neither spouse would be entitled to child or spousal support. Tisha was permitted to retain a leased home and a leased 2020 BMW, while Duane kept his separate leased residence, a leased Bentley, and two motorcycles.
Real Estate
Reports from 2009 indicated that Tisha and Duane had sold a property in Lake Arrowhead, California, for $1.597 million. The couple had originally purchased it in 2004 for $880,000. The house boasts 3,858 square feet of living space and includes a slip dock for boat access. In 2005, they paid $900,000 for another property in Chatsworth, which became their primary residence.
Due to Duane’s bankruptcy settlement, he was compelled to sell the Chatsworth property to settle various debts, including a $1.5 million loan from Will Smith. Tisha Campbell, however, sought to prevent her ex-husband from profiting from the sale of the Chatsworth property. She contended that since Duane’s substantial debt forced the sale of their family home, neither he nor his kin should gain any benefits from the real estate transaction.
